Once the PwnageTool is up and running, click okay to the pop-up window. Now if you have never used the PwnageTool you will notice there are many options presented to you. We will guide you through to process so do not get overwhelmed. The first thing you must do is click on the expert mode button in the top left hand corner of the screen (you will notice by default, Simple mode is selected, but we want Expert mode).

Step 5: Selecting Your Device

Now once you ensure Expert mode is selected, you will need to select the iDevice you are going to jailbreak, once you do select your iDevice a big check mark will appear over the one you selected. Click the Blue Arrow to continue.

Step 6: Browse

Now browse for the iOS 4.2.1 firmware you downloaded in step 2, click Open.

Select “General” and click on the blue arrow to continue. If your iPhone is NOT on an official carrier, select “Activate the phone”. If you are on an official carrier (ie. AT&T in the US), make sure this option is deselected (untick ‘Activate the phone’). If you want to use your iPhone on an unofficial carrier, tick this box (for iPod & iPad users, uncheck the checkbox). You can also increase the root partition at about 1,000 MB. Click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 8: More Settings

This part is optional. You are now in Cydia settings. From there, you can choose to pre-install jailbreak apps so that you don’t have to do it later. Dig around this option if you want to pre-install apps now. When done, click the blue arrow to continue.

Step 9: Custom Package Settings

You are in “Custom packages settings”. By default, “Cydia Installer” should be selected. Make sure it is selected and click next.

Step 10: Build

Click “Build”, then click the blue arrow. Then, PwnageTool will start creating the custom firmware to jailbreak your device. You will be asked for your system password for PwnageTool to proceed.

Step 11: Save File
